NEW MONTHLY EVENT!

The Sketchbook Club is expanding with a brand new event dedicated to portraiture! This is an additional monthly event under The Sketchbook Club where we focus on "sketching" portraits only, using paint and/or other medium.

Painting portraits is one of my favourite subjects, and as I venture down the path of sharing my techniques through specially curated workshops, I felt there was a need for a casual meet-up that was dedicated to practising painting portraits beyond a workshop environment, yet still designed for learning and developing. An event that provided a calm and friendly space that welcomes all levels and abilities to practise, experiment, and explore new themes.

If you are interested in exploring portraiture but not sure a workshop environment is for you, then this will be the perfect drop-in event to try. Each month will challenge you with a new mystery portrait, working either from reference photos or from life.

Why is this event for you?

Sometimes the idea of painting can feel more like a wishful fantasy in our busy lives, especially if painting feels new to you or if you haven’t done it in a long time! We find ourselves caught up in a list of excuses that prevent us. We would love to do it, but we’re either too tired, too busy, or too nervous. We lack space, time, equipment or other. Or maybe we feel out of practise, or lost on where to start.

The truth is, you don’t need a large space, fancy equipment or even a lot of time to start painting. Once we do eventually start painting, we realise how easy it is.

This event will help you build a positive and confident mindset that will overcome the daily obstacles. It encourages you to enjoy painting for fun, and for practise!

For the beginners or the seasoned portrait painters, the event can be a perfect space to explore different styles, mediums and techniques. It might just be a nice change of scenery or a monthly challenge to finish a sketchbook with mini portraits!

Sketching Portraits is a unique event that strikes the perfect balance between a laid-back social evening and an inspiring workshop. As the name suggests, the intention for the night is to explore portraits using various techniques and mediums in our sketchbooks. Whether you're looking to practise portraiture at your own pace or seeking guidance and support, this event offers the best of both worlds.

We won’t focus on creating a finished piece; instead, we’ll experiment and discover what works for you, embracing the joy of the creative process. It’s an ideal setting for newcomers to portraiture, those who’ve attended my previous workshops, or for seasoned portrait artists – expect a relaxed yet motivating space where you’ll love what you create, no matter how finished it is, because the satisfaction lies in the journey of exploration.
